Every effort has been made to ensure your Stonebound surface is of the highest quality. However, it will look better and last longer if a few simple maintenance procedures are adopted.
ROUTINE MAINTENANCE & GENERAL CLEANING for Stonebound Crystal and Stonebound Amber
General cleaning of the STONEBOUND CRYSTAL and STONEBOUND AMBER surfaces can be carried out by cold pressure washing up to a maximum 150 bar rating to remove dirt and grime. The water should be applied using a fan type lance which should be kept 200mm above the installed STONEBOUND CRYSTAL and STONEBOUND AMBER. Care should be taken however to prevent damage to the surface with excessive water pressure. If the surface is contaminated with any cement or concrete marks these can be removed using diluted hydrochloric acid or a proprietary cement remover. In all cases we recommend that a small test area is carried out first to confirm suitability.
If the surface has been contaminated with chewing gum it is best removed by freezing and chipping off as necessary. Oil stains should be removed as soon as possible using a mild detergent as required to prevent possible staining. Alternatively, ‘Oil Stain Remover’ from Sea-Chem can be used. Rubber tyre marks can be removed using ‘Tyre Mark Remover’ supplied by Sea-Chem.
In extreme cases silt and other fines may need to be removed to preserve the surface’s porosity. A commercial wet/vac or suction cleaner can be used.
The STONEBOUND CRYSTAL and STONEBOUND AMBER surfaces should be regularly cleared of leaves etc. to prevent moss growth or possible tanning staining. Most vegetation can be easily removed using an ordinary detergent and power wash/scrub. However, if this is not effective the moss or weed growth should be treated using an appropriate herbicide. Before using any chemical, please conduct a test area to ensure the colour of the STONEBOUND CRYSTAL and STONEBOUND AMBER product does not change.
The STONEBOUND CRYSTAL and STONEBOUND AMBER surfaces have been designed for normal pedestrian and vehicular traffic use, therefore protection should be provided wherever possible against abnormal usage. Abnormal usage applies to heavy objects such as skips, these should not be dragged across the surface, the STONEBOUND CRYSTAL and STONEBOUND AMBER must be protected in this instance to avoid any impact damage, staining etc.
Damaged surfaces should be repaired as soon as possible. Please contact the contractor who installed the surface.
SNOW, ICE AND FROST
Areas subject to snow, ice and frost can be treated using Rock Salt, however this may be harmful to plants and can damage surrounding metal or concrete surfaces. Excessive snow should be shoveled away using a plastic snow shovel, taking care not to damage the STONEBOUND CRYSTAL and STONEBOUND AMBER Resin Bound surfacing. Do not use a wire brush ice remover, alternative eco-friendly ice removers can be used, however a small area must be tested to ensure the STONEBOUND CRYSTAL and STONEBOUND AMBER is not damaged or weakened.
