Resin Bound or Resin Bonded - What is the difference?
Resin Bound surfaces are produced by mixing a blend of natural graded aggregates with a clear resin which is then trowelled to a smooth, level finish onto a suitable base. The decorative surface is hard wearing, low maintenence and permeable making it SuDS compliant when installed onto a porous build up. Our Resin Bound porous surfacing products include BBA approved Addaset, Addabound and Terrabound. Our innovative Terrabase Rustic is a no-dig resin bound system providing a more rustic looking appearance achieved with a larger aggregate size and does not need a concrete or asphalt base. If you are looking for a splash of colour or want to incorporate a design or logo, Resin Bound Addacolor is available in a range of shades. Typical lifespan will be in excess of 15 years.
Resin Bonded surfaces are produced by bonding graded aggregate onto a natural or coloured resin which has been applied onto concrete, asphalt, wood or metal. The finished result is a non-porous surface that gives the appearance of loose gravel without the maintenance issues of migrating stone. The Addastone Resin Bonded Surfacing system is available in a range of natural aggregates selected for their hard wearing and decorative properties to provide an attractive, low maintenance surface with good slip resistance. Typical lifespan will be between 5 and 15 years dependant on usage and aggregate selection.

What base do I need?
Addagrip Resin Bound and Resin Bonded systems both require a sound base suitable for the intended use of the finished surface.
Resin Bound surfacing ideally requires an asphalt or concrete base but can be applied onto a well compacted crushed rock base for footpaths and domestic driveways using our Terrabase Rustic or Terrabase Classic resin bound systems.
Resin Bound systems can be installed onto existing asphalt or concrete surfaces providing they are sound and in good repair. Terrabase Rustic is our 'no-dig' Resin Bound system that can be installed directly onto a compacted 'M.O.T' Type 3 or similar where asphalt or concrete is not an option.
Our Resin Bonded Addastone system requires a suitable surface (asphalt, concrete) laid to falls and treated with a sealer/primer prior to application of the resin bonded surface.
