Addacolor for former greyhound racing stadium refurbishment

    Contractor: Total Protection (GB) Ltd

Addacolor 3mm Cloud, 3mm Red, 3mm Black, 3mm Blue, 3mm RAL blend Orange

Addagrip approved contractor Total Protection (GB) Ltd have been doing the numbers at the recently redeveloped Walthamstow Stadium, a former greyhound racing venue now transformed into residential and community use with the help of Addacolor Resin Bound surfacing.

The iconic Walthamstow Stadium in Waltham Forest East London, fell into disrepair after it closed in 2008 but has now been sympathetically redeveloped by L+Q, a housing association that creates shared ownership homes in London and the South East.

As part of the scheme Total Protection were asked by their client, Tamdown, to install a series of coloured numbered areas in the communal garden and play area designed to reference the old gate numbers and colours of the greyhounds’ racing jackets. Addacolor resin bound surfacing was the perfect solution to create the vibrant numbers in a range of colours in the walkways and as a centre piece for the new play area. The landmark frontage of the old stadium has been retained and a blue perimeter strip of Resin Bound Addacolor has been installed into the pavement around the outside of the complex to represent the old track.

Whilst the redevelopment provides new community areas and facilities, the retention of the Grade II listed Tote building and former dog kennels serve as a reminder of the history of the venue. The refurbishment includes the sensitive restoration of the iconic score board which music buffs will also recognise as being featured on the back cover of Blur's Parklife Album.
