Addastone resin bonded surfacing for regeneration of pathways at historic park

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council are currently undertaking a programme of redeveloping public spaces and have selected resin bonded Addastone surfacing for a number of local schemes.

The most recently completed, The People’s Park, in Dún Laoghaire is an integral part of the Council’s larger Urban Design Strategy for the area which seeks to reconnect the seafront and Harbour to the Town Centre. This historic landscaped park was developed towards the end of the 19th century in the formal Victorian style and is today a popular recreational area for visitors.  It was enclosed by wrought iron railings and gates with the most prominent entrances off of Georges Street and Queens Road.

As part of the regeneration, Addagrip approved contractor, Saxa Landscapes, were asked to renovate the existing asphalt pathways with a resin bonded Addastone surfacing finish in a 1-3mm Brittany Bronze  to resemble the original hoggin surface, the council having already used Addastone Brittany Bronze for the award winning Metals project in 2013. The resin bonded surfacing installation was carried out over 3 phases to cause minimum disruption to the park’s visitors and was completed in April 2015 ready for the Park’s Grand Opening by the mayor of Dún Laoghaire.

The park now has over 1000sqm of resin bonded Addastone pathways which give the natural appearance of loose gravel in keeping with the heritage of the park but without the maintenance issues of migrating stone.
